Working Projects

The Green Lighthouse Project

The Green Lighthouse Project is a groundbreaking initiative led by America’s Green Corps to transform decommissioned offshore oil platforms into vibrant hubs for renewable energy, marine bioscience research, and climate resilience monitoring. Its pilot site, Platform Holly, located off the coast of California, is set to become a model for sustainability—powered by solar and wind energy, equipped with environmental sensors, and supporting a marine fire-watch camera system to strengthen coastal early warning networks. By embracing a Rigs-to-Reefs approach, this project protects the rich marine life already established on the structure’s sub-surface, effectively turning the platform into a thriving sea tree.

The Marine Conservation Network (MCN) is proud to collaborate on this visionary initiative by leading awareness efforts and advocacy outreach. We are actively spreading the word through blogs, social media, public newsletters, and community events to rally support around the project. In addition, Direct contact of state agencies and government officials, including Governor Newsom's office is happening to help secure the necessary CEQA permits and regulatory backing. Through our platform, we aim to elevate this project as a beacon of what is possible when conservation, innovation, and public collaboration come together.

We invite our community to join us in advocating for the Green Lighthouse—the future of marine conservation begins here. Stay tuned for updates.

The Beach Clean Up Station

The Beach Cleanup Station is a simple yet powerful solution designed by high school student and Marine Conservation Network Ambassador, Natalie Schweitzer. Inspired by the need for cleaner coastlines and a more engaged community, this station provides compostable and recyclable bags for the public to use while walking along the beach. Visitors are encouraged to grab a bag, pick up litter they find along the way, and then dispose of the filled bag in the designated trash can attached to the station. Unlike standard pet waste stations, this project directly addresses marine pollution by inviting all beachgoers—not just dog owners—to take part in protecting the ocean. With a clean, clearly labeled design and a visible call to action, the Beach Cleanup Station is a tool for education, action, and community empowerment. By offering an easy, accessible way to help, this initiative fosters daily stewardship and inspires locals and tourists alike to become caretakers of our coast—one cleanup at a time.
